Welcome to my Quiet Note

Lovely Words

“It’s always good to remember where you come from and celebrate it. To remember where you come from is part of where you’re going.”

— — Anthony Burgess

Hello dear friend,

When someone asks where you are from, how do you respond?

I suspect most of us answer with a place on a map—a town where we grew up, a community we call home, or perhaps where life eventually led us.

But lately I've been thinking about that question in a different way.

For a long time, I've carried an idea for a personal project: a coffee table book filled with images and words that tell the story of where I am from, inspired by my favourite magazine—Bella Grace.

Not just a location, but the moments, people, sounds, and experiences that have shaped me.

I've been scribbling down a few thoughts...

I am from open spaces and dusty school bus rides.

I am from the crunch and sweet taste of a carrot pulled straight from the garden.

I am from the smell of canola fields in bloom.

I am from the sweet sound of Don Williams playing over and over as we crossed the mountains on an epic family vacation.

I am from my Grandma's flower garden, with rows of pink petunias lining the walkway.

I am from hours spent in the barn, loving my horse.

I am from combine rides at dusk, and long chats under the stars with my big brother in the grain truck.

I am from the sound of baby kittens tucked away in bales of hay.

I am from road trips to visit faraway grandparents, all six of us squeezed into Dad's single-cab pickup truck, and Kentucky Fried Chicken for supper on the way home.

I am from goodnight kisses from my Dad and his familiar words, "Be good," every time he said goodbye.

I am from "Hey Lolly," the term of endearment used only by my brothers.

I am from catechism classes my mom took us to so we would know God.

I am from hugs. Lots and lots of hugs.

And my list goes on and on.

This is only a small part of where I am from.

Perhaps today you'll spend a moment thinking about where you're from too—not the place, but the people, memories, and moments that have shaped your story.

Have a beautiful day. ♡

with love and gratitude,

Loralie

a little something to ponder…

If you were to write your own "I am from..." list, what would be the first three things you'd include?

And if you like, please share, I'd love to hear.♡
