Lovely Words

“Unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered you will never grow.”

Hello dear friend,

When was the last time you experienced butterflies in your stomach?

That feeling that rises up — a mixture of excitement and a little fear — just enough discomfort to make you feel stretched, yet not so much that you step away from the very thing calling you forward.

A few weeks ago, my mom, who is just two months shy of 84, auditioned for our community spring drama production and was cast as “Grama Alma.” Her role was an important part of the storyline, and she worked so hard memorizing her lines.

The morning of the first performance, I asked her how she was doing.

“I have butterflies in my stomach,” she said.

I couldn’t help but smile. My immediate response was, “That’s wonderful — it means you’re alive! Butterflies are a good thing.”

I was so proud of her in that moment. She didn’t shrink back or shy away — she simply went for it. Even at 83, she allowed herself to stretch and grow through a brand new experience. And she was a hit, my mom.

I want to be like her — willing to do the things that bring butterflies, trusting that growth often waits on the other side of courage.

And now, she’s preparing for her next adventure: a fly-in fishing trip with her best friend of 80 years, Elaine.

Have a beautiful day. ♡

with love and gratitude,

Loralie

a little something to ponder…

What is something that gives you butterflies… and could it be an invitation to grow?
