Lovely Words

If there ever comes a day when we can’t be together. Keep me in your heart. I’ll be there forever.
— — Winnie the Pooh

Hello my friend,

Here we are at the end of July and how quickly it has passed.

For us, the month began with our church’s annual pancake breakfast on July 1st. What followed was a beautiful whirlwind: five full days with our grandchildren, a family reunion, a week in the mountains with our son and daughter-in-law and their two little ones, a short regroup at home, a weekend away at a horse show…and now, more grandbaby time filling our home with joy.

It’s easy to call it busy. But when I pause to reflect, I see how every moment was a blessing. The kind of fullness that leaves your heart wide open.

Like the time we set out for a walk with our three grandsons and the dogs, only to make it ten feet before discovering a Saskatoon Berry bush. An hour later, with purple-stained fingers and a bucketful of berries for dessert, my oldest grandson Quinton turned to me and said, “Grama, this is so fun!”

Or the walk to the lake that turned into full-on laughter and a spontaneous splash, clothes and all. Or Sammy, faced with a spaghetti dinner, declaring, “Let’s have a contest to see who can keep their face the cleanest!”  It worked better than I could have imagined.

There was Zachary, belting out “O Canada” at any moment with pure joy on his sweet little face.
Luka, snuggled close as I read Winnie the Pooh, whispering, “I need a hug Grama.”
Lucy, running into my arms as she shouts “Grama!”
Cashton, asking “Where’s Grama?” (but meaning Grampa) and “Play with me!” and, always, “But why?”, and tossing a stick into the flowing stream to watch is float to it's new home.
And baby Easson with his giggles, his snuggles, the sweet weight of him sleeping on my shoulder with his head tucked into my neck.

And it goes on and on…

There were moments with extended family too, laughter and reminiscing, and that gentle ache for more once it all ended.

Quiet evenings on the deck with my husband, soaking in the goodness of it all.
And each day my flowers kept blooming…various shades of pink.

My heart is full. I hope July held something beautiful for you, too.
